“Some things can’t be talked about…Instead they need to be ‘arted’ out.” When we don’t have the words to express what is happening in our heads, hearts, spirit or in our bodies, creative approaches can help us understand, communicate and connect with ourselves. No artistic experience necessary!
My name is Kirsten and I am a Registered Social Worker with 20 years experience in the field. In a search to find innovative and creative ways to connect with people, I became qualified to offer Art Therapy in 2013. In addition to the use of Art Therapy, I rely on evidence-based approaches to inform my practice including Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy and psychoeducation. I use a blended trauma informed approach of talk and art therapy to support, understand and collaborate with individuals of all ages experiencing a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, complex trauma, grief and loss, substance use, caregiver stress, burnout and troubling relationship dynamics. The lens through which I practice with includes believing you are the expert of your own life, clarity and growth is possible, validation of your circumstances is necessary for connection and the creation of a therapeutic alliance, and you deserve a non-judgemental space to work through the things that don’t feel quite right. If you’re looking for a fresh perspective on how to tackle the challenges of life, trying out a new mode of transportation via creativity and expression through colour, imagery and shape, may be just the ticket to solving your issues so you can continue to the next leg of your journey. I look forward to hearing from you.
